Job Description

Amendments to the pharmaceutical cool room and main factory cooling project, which successfully maintained temperatures below 25°C. The factory previously had 75mm reflective foil laminate insulation installed, which was improved by replacing the uninsulated trim deck skylights with 75mm insulation blankets covered with foil, and then reinstalling the skylights. This upgrade enhanced insulation efficiency, reducing the need for refrigeration equipment and lowering ongoing operational costs.

To improve environmental control, we added two air locks to the main factory and infilled two roller doors with PIR insulated panels and large swing doors, matching the existing roller door color. Each air lock features two interlocked rapid roller doors (4m W x 4m H), minimizing outside air intrusion and stabilizing internal temperatures, especially during warmer months.

High-quality refrigeration equipment was installed throughout the main factory cooling solution. This included a commercial refrigeration rack system with three Bitzer compressors, Danfoss valves, and controls by Strathbrook. The system was positioned against the western wall inside the factory, with the condenser installed on an aluminum platform on the main roof. Twelve strategically placed ceiling-hung evaporators ensured even distribution of cooled air across the factory floor, facilitating accessibility for maintenance.

Control and monitoring were managed through a Danfoss 880 controller, offering individual temperature control points for precise climate management. The controller supported remote access, temperature monitoring, graphing, and alarm management, connected to your IT department’s server.

The pharmaceutical cool room, operating at 2-4°C, was equipped with two independent refrigeration systems to ensure redundancy. Both systems operated separately electrically and refrigeratively, switching daily between lead and lag roles to maintain efficiency and readiness. Each system included large evaporators positioned at opposite ends of the room to maintain uniform temperature distribution.

The cool room specifications also featured PIR insulated panels (150mm thick), LED lighting for optimal visibility, and large access doors tailored to operational needs.

The project was executed with efficiency and adherence to the original plan, ensuring successful completion.
